Pulmonary Function Testing
Also called lung function tests, pulmonary function testing refers to the category of exams, including spirometry and lung volume and exercise exams, that measure how well a person’s lungs are working at any given point in time. Specifically, pulmonary function testing measures the amount of air held by the lungs and how strongly a person can empty the air from the lungs upon exhaling. This type of testing is non-invasive and not painful, but they are beneficial for physicians in getting to the bottom of respiratory issues. Pulmonary function testing can be used to aid in the diagnosis of multiple conditions including asthma, COPD, and chronic bronchitis. The team of pulmonary experts at Riverside University Physicians is skilled and trained in performing pulmonary function testing and is proud to offer this vital service to the members of our community.
